MOVE will showcase professional and future professional dancers from 6 different dance companies, including Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago. Company Co-Director Emily Winkler, “We are thrilled that the group of young dancers we have selected will have the opportunity to interact with other youth and professional dance companies in a positive and collaborative environment.”

Jazz Dance is a uniquely American art form combining classical elements with those that reflect modern cultural influences such as jazz, vaudeville, and even today’s popular music. It’s characterized by a high-energy style and syncopated rhythms where the dancer’s body and music work in tandem expression.
This year a portion of the proceeds from MOVE will be donated to Everybody Dance Now! Chicago. Everybody Dance Now! is a youth-run nonprofit organization that provides free, weekly dance programming to young people throughout the country who would otherwise not have access to such opportunities. They are dedicated not only to inspiring students through positive outlets that promote healthy and active lives, but also to empowering our young leaders as agents of social change.
Jazz Theatre of Illinois emphasizes the positive and a spirit of community while giving quality training and performance experience to future professional dancers. Now in it’s second season, it has 36 members and no specific studio affiliation is required to participate. Dancers can continue to train at their own home studio, which is unique in the dance environment. Company members represent Grayslake, Gurnee, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Libertyville, Long Grove, Mundelein, and Vernon Hills.

Jazz Theatre of Illinois wants to return dance to its roots as a creative, collaborative, and community based art form. It is a not for profit company working to resurrect community spirit among aspiring dancers. If you are tired of the prevailing competitive attitude in dance engendered by Dance Moms, dance competitions, and for profit dance teams, then Jazz Theatre of Illinois will provide a safe landing place for your young dancer.
