Extraordinary Ice Cream in Lake County

Dining in Lake County

We are really lucky to live in an area that is so diverse and large that we can get ice cream that isn’t your mom’s ice cream. Or dads. Or pawpaws or mamaws.  They would be so jealous of the options that lie ahead of you as it pertains to unusual ice cream choices. I have rounded up the best places to get ice cream in non-traditional ways here in Lake County and beyond in one convenient place! Because everyone screams for extraordinary ice cream!

La Michoacana Premium
320 W. Rollins Rd., Round Lake Beach| (224) 338-0326
839 S. Lake St., Mundelein| (224) 360-6918
2052 N. Lewis Ave., Waukegan| (847) 672-4273
1801 Belvidere St., Waukegan | (224) 480-4965
2695 Grand Ave., Gurnee | (847) 360-7077
With flavors like pistachio, mango, and tamarin, why wouldn’t you head here to enjoy some fantastic flavors with your family? They even sell elote, which is street corn with mayo, parmesan, spices, and fresh lime. WHERE ELSE CAN YOU GET ICE CREAM AND CORN? This might be my new favorite place, and yours as well.

My Flavor It! Place
10 E. Main St., Lake Zurich | (847) 540-O-ICE
321 N. Main St., Wauconda | (847) 526-O-ICE
703 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville | (224) 424-O-ICE
So Hawaiian Shaved Ice is my new favorite thing. Especially when they “sno-cap” it, which means sweetened condensed milk is poured over the top. You will also find slushee’s, ice cream, and many more frozen treats. You can even have ice cream in the middle of your shaved ice! They don’t have corn, though, so don’t ask, or they will look at you weirdly. For a full review see Cindy’s story on the Libertyville Location.

Chill Bubble Tea
122 Hawthorn Center, #212, Vernon Hills| (847) 367-3333
Okay, so it’s not ice cream, but it really isn’t tea either. If you have never had bubble tea, you seriously don’t know what you are missing. But if you have issues with texture, this might not be for you because of the tapioca “bubbles” at the bottom. Think dessert as a beverage or a way cooler milkshake.

Worth the trip

Hansen’s Ice Cream Parlor
11323 Fox River Rd., Wilmot, WI.| (262) 298-5431
For the Fox Riverside Float alone. Can you say coffee poured over ice cream?? Head to their Facebook page to see all of their other creations. Jessica tells you all about it in her review.

reLeaf Matcha Cafe
100 E. Algonquin Rd., Arlington Heights | (847) 956-6699
Located inside of the amazing Mitsuwa Marketplace in Arlington Heights, you will think you stepped onto the streets of Tokyo at this amazing Japanese mall. Try the green tea ice cream for something completely new as well as refreshing.

Let me know of some wild and crazy ice cream places I don’t already know about!

Kari loves to write and take photos, not necessarily in that order. Kari loves making people laugh, being real, and spending time with her husband and two daughters. She also really loves her dog Buddy and fish Lucy. When she is not busy writing or going through the Starbucks drive-thru, you can find her talking to her plants Zoe, Evie, and Albert. She didn’t name Evie. Her nine-year-old did. But she’s totally an Edna so that’s what Kari calls her when her nine-year-old isn’t home.
