Notes from My Minivan: A Mom Like You! and You! and You!

From the Editor

I spend a lot of time in my minivan driving four kids here and there, there and here. It’s one of the few places where I can actually think, sometimes. These are my thoughts, scribbled on napkins and receipts—a look into raising kids and living in Lake County.

A Mom Like You! and You! and You!

I’m sure editors of big magazines (online and in print) pen their monthly letters to their readers at beautiful desks with fresh cups of coffee. Well, this isn’t a big splashy magazine, and I’m a mom of four. My new monthly column will be from the scribbles and notes that come to me in my minivan, where I spend a good deal of my time. My coffee is probably cold because it’s in Chicago, and everyone is on this the 756th day of winter.

This month we’re giving you a look “behind the trike” and introducing you to the writers and moms that make Little Lake County what it is. We hope you’ll be able to connect a find a mom that’s just like you, or just like you today, or just like you tomorrow. If there is anything I have learned in my eight years as a mom, it’s that everything changes, sometimes slowly, and sometimes by the minute.

The days are long but the years are short.

I’ll share a little more about me and my assimilation to suburban mom from a city-loving girl in my new monthly column. It will be honest, hopefully, funny and maybe a little bit snarky because change is rarely ever smooth. While I didn’t come to the suburbs kicking and screaming, I wasn’t running either. I was more like the sullen toddler dragging their feet and pouting. I would never have imagined myself in the far suburbs. I have fallen in love and am learning to navigate the vastness every day.

I hope we can help you navigate the vastness too. Whether that be the vast world of preschools and finding one that’s right or just in finding the best deal on a second-hand stroller. We want to be your go-to resource for everything and anything parenting in Lake County. So say hi! Make yourself known and tell us what you want to see and read. Meet our contributors and check out their new tag lines to give you a little more insight into what type of mom they are so you can find the one just like you, and you, and you!

Chat us up on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest. We’re everywhere that you are, navigating the vast open spaces of parenting in the burbs one day at a time just like you!
