Nestled on Walk Up Road, and bordered by Route 176, Veteran Acres Park is a little oasis of sun, shade and adventure and might better be named “acres of excitement.”

Here you will find ample parking, an expansive pavilion which houses a wood burning fireplace, tons of tables, and a bathroom. While the potties aren’t fancy, they do flush which is better than a porta-potty!
When you continue down the winding path to the recently refurbished playground, you will find activities for all ages and abilities. There is a smaller climbing structure that rests on a spongy surface that is knee-friendly if tumbles occur. The slides are short and the stairs are few, so it’s a great place for exploring toddlers and preschoolers to learn to navigate the playground. It is surrounded by giant shade trees, mom-friendly benches, and imaginative climbing areas.

The larger climbing structure for children ages 5-8 is a little more challenging, with lots of climbing and swinging features. My kids loved trying to traverse the giant spider web which, thankfully, is elevated over the rubber surface. The rest of the playground is covered primarily with woodchips.

The entire area has an adorable woodland theme with faux logs to hide in, stumps to jump on, and leaves to climb on. The shade is plentiful, so be sure to bring a blanket and a picnic.
