In the center of the City of Mchenry, and a short walk from the downtown area is Veteran’s Memorial Park, located on Pearl Street. Surrounded by giant shade trees and lots of grass, this park offers much more than just a great place to play.

Old-school swings and rocking horses join updated playground equipment for an exciting challenge all ages. My toddler was thrilled to find an easily accessible slide with simple stairs to conquer. My bigger kids hung out on the larger playground complete with climbing areas and very challenging monkey bars.

Our favorite part of this park is the classical and jazz music that constantly plays throughout the park on outdoor speakers. It lends a relaxing vibe to our play and feels like a lovely soundtrack to our afternoon. Come back during balmy summer evenings for the real thing, when a live jazz band plays in the pavilion during its summer concert series.

Veteran’s Memorial Park provides a great place to enjoy a picnic upon shaded tables or on a blanket under a tree. Be sure to visit the ducks (or bring your fishing pole) and visit nearby Weber Park just one short block away. This little plot of grass boasts a dock on the Fox River for terrific fishing fowl watching.
