Splish! Splash! We almost have another swimmer in the house. Since the last progress report, the boys have gained so much more confidence in their swimming. We had to miss a class or two here and there, so I think they probably would have progressed a lot faster than they have. Fortunately, it is easy to reschedule a class with the front desk staff. They always put effort into finding the time where both boys can take classes at the same time.

Gabriel, age four, can do the sea otter float (floating on his back) for longer than three seconds and can put his face underwater for about that amount of time, too. He is also becoming more confident with gliding from the sitting step to the water step. During each class, they teach the kids the same rescue moves in case they were to fall into the water. He is good at moving back and forth on the wall and pulling himself up. He still needs work with keeping his hands cupped and using larger strokes.

Rafael, age two, is my slow and steady learner. He is still comfortable keeping his head above water at all times. Some days he can do dips in the water with no problems; other days, he resists. Luckily, we’ve had more better days than bad. He is very good at using the pulling paddles and kicking straight. He still needs encouragement to pull himself out of the pool and jump back in. He is getting much better at floating on his back, but he still hates having his ears touch the water.
I made a compilation of videos from a few times my husband was able to do the class with Rafael. It will show you some moves they do during class and the boys’ favorite thing to do after swim class. Enjoy!
