Read! Do! Go! National Pancake Day {2016}

Who doesn’t LOVE pancakes? One of the most beloved foods out there has it’s own day designation, National Pancake Day, which will be celebrated on March 8th this year. In honor of this tasty food, Little Lake County has put together some ideas to Read! Do!  and Go! to help you celebrate.

National Pancake Day

Something to READ:

That’s right, you guessed it! You MUST read If You Give a Pig a Pancake
on March 8th. The modern classic is a favorite of all ages. Written by Laura Numeroff, author of If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, the story follows silly and precocious Pig on his mission to eat pancakes.

Eric Carle is a recognizable author and illustrator (a ‘la The Very Hungry Caterpillar ), but this may be a new book for your family. In Pancakes, Pancakes!, Jack wants a giant pancake for breakfast. Follow him on his mission to make it happen.

OMG Pancakes!: 75 Cool Creations Your Kids Will Love to Eat by Jim Belosic is a cookbook like no other. This book is dedicated to all of the delicious and fun ways to eat pancakes–75 different ways, in fact!

Something to DO:

Make your own pancake mix! You can save money and skip the artificial ingredients and fillers when you make your mix ahead of time. Having mix on hand will make it easier to prepare pancakes any day, not just on National Pancake Day.

Make edible pancake art! Cooking, projects, pancakes, and getting messy are are some of my kids’ favorite things. Kris over at Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers has put together a great post on pancake art with kids.

  1. Best pancakes are at Whitney Street in Grayslake! They have amazing blueberry pancakes. Fluffy and moist with real blueberries inside!! Not just blueberry syrup like the chains do. They’re a small place but my favorite for breakfast, or breakfast for dinner!
