MADE in Lake County: Happy Little Flame Candles

MADE is a paid partnership with Little Lake County.

Welcome to MADE in Lake County! MADE introduces you to the people and stories behind local Lake County businesses. This month we have gotten to know Bex Anderson.  Bex is the Owner of Happy Little Flame. Today we are going to learn more about her candles.

The main reason Bex founded Happy Little Flame is that she discovered most major candles contain paraffin wax. When burned, paraffin wax candles release toxic chemicals into the air. Bex loved candles, and did not want to stop burning them, yet didn’t want toxins around her family. She decided to start her own clean burning candle company, made without dyes or additives.

Happy Little Flame was started in late 2017 and features 15 different candle fragrances as well as the option to customize your own hand-poured candle.  The fragrances range from fun scents such as Monkey Farts (apple, banana, and vanilla) and Pairs Nicely with Silence (coffee scented), to more traditional scents such as Oh Shirt! The Laundry (linen scented). And best yet, all of the candles can be burned year-round without fear of any releasing harmful toxins.

Happy Little Flame candles come in 3-ounce, 10-ounce, and 16-ounce sizes, as well as wax melts. Bex gave me three, 3-ounce samples of her candles in the most popular fragrances: Banana Bread (banana and coconut), They Whine I Wine (white wine ), and Tired as a Mother (lavender and vanilla). I have burned them each candle several times for an hour or so, and there is still quite a bit left of each candle.

It is no surprise that my son’s favorite scent was banana bread. He loves sweets, too, and keeps asking me to burn it. The candle made the whole living room smell like I was actually cooking something yummy!  My favorite scent was They Whine I Wine because well… wine.  The fragrance of the candles was nice, but not overpowering. We will definitely use these often, and especially when company comes over.

My favorite thing, hands down, about Happy Little Flame candles is that you do not have to sacrifice any fragrance to have a completely “clean” candle. I love that I can feel confident enough to burn these candles around both my six-year-old and my one-year-old without having to worry about the children breathing in chemicals. I can just focus on how great they smell!  I really want to try all of her candles now.
