Gifts are a love language in and of themselves.
Especially if gift giving truly is one of the primary ways a person in your life receives and communicates love, we all want to pay special attention to the gifts we’re giving and make them meaningful, useful, beneficial ones that will not only express our love but also be well used and loved.
And let’s emphasize the useful because the very essence of a gift is that it will be used and enjoyed!
Maybe you’ve got a mom in your life this Mother’s Day who you’d really like to dazzle with a thoughtful gift she’ll not only love but use, too. If so, you’ll definitely want to check out the gifts, many of which can be bought here in Lake County, in this gift guide for the crunchy {but even the not-so-crunchy mamas will probably enjoy, too}!

Lava Rock Bracelets
Murphy’s Health Food’s and Juice Bar
400 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville | (847) 362-4664
If you end up purchasing some essential oils for the mom in your life, Lava Rock Bracelets, locally made in Lake County by Lisa Iris Designs and sold at Murphy’s Health Store in Libertyville, would be an amazing complimentary present to accompany the oils. Simply rub the oils into the beads on the bracelet and the wearer can enjoy the scent of her favorite oils for a few days without reapplying oils all the live-long day because what busy mom has time for that?! Mom can then enjoy not only the smell but also the aromatherapy health benefits of the oils. What a way to care for mom all day long.
While we’re talking oily gifts, I’d be amiss if I didn’t mention a diffuser would also be a great gift for mom. Not only can you use it and reap aromatherapy benefits but it also just makes the house smell delicious! We have a few diffusers, including one from Young Living and the ZAQ Mirage one you can order through Amazon.
Bellabeat Leaf

Beautiful, soft and feminine, The Leaf can be worn as a lovely necklace or bracelet. But it’s not just any piece of a jewelry; the Leaf is a lovely accessory that doubles as a fitness and movement tracker, helping the wearer to discreetly incorporate awareness of movement. A friend who has a Bellabeat Leaf says she was initially attracted to it because of its soft, beautiful appearance, and that she received more compliments on her Leaf than most any other jewelry she’s ever sported! I personally love the company’s sentiments of giving mom a gift that takes care of her health in the same kind of way she cares for all the other people in her life. {Bonus! Bellabeat Leafs are currently 20 percent off with the code Mom16 through Wednesday, May 4 only!}
Deep Conditioning or Detoxifying Treatment

A gift mom probably wouldn’t give herself but would be serve the purpose of useful and relaxing, a Deep Conditioning or Detoxifying Treatment for her hair would give her so much needed me-time away while being pampered. Art & Nature focuses on using products that mostly rate well on the Environmental Working Group site featuring products like Davines and Onesta. Bonus: the salon has a boutique filled with cute clothes, scarves and repurposed jewelry.
Intuitive Massage
The Healing Groves
1880 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville | (847)549-9595
Lovelight Healing Center
408 Center St., Grayslake | (847) 350-7000 | Facebook

If the mom in your life is like me and has so many beautiful things and you don’t want to add another physical thing to her collection, perhaps buying her an experience that will allow her to indulge in some self care would best communicate love and gratitude. My two favorite places for body work are The Healing Groves and Lovelight Healing Center. Both centers feature therapists who are mindful and intuitive.
Lovelight is a holistic healing center, so the therapists who practice there tend toward viewing the client holistically and working together to support not only the body but the mind and spirit as well. Lovelight also pays special attention to the quality of massage oils, using natural ones without synthetic ingredients.
Remember flowers are nice but gifts from local merchants say I love you!
