In the words of the famous Harry Caray: “Holy Cow!” It’s baseball season! That means hole-y shirts, hole-y pants and a whole lot of laundry! Spring is the season for wet, messy sports at our house. That’s why I was so excited to stumble upon the sports section at Green Kids Resale.
Who can’t use another pair of baseball pants to keep from doing another load of laundry, or an extra pair of cleats for that mid-season growth spurt? This store has a huge selection of athletic shoes and makes it easy for moms like me (who don’t know the difference between a soccer, football or baseball shoe) by labeling everything. They even have a poster showing the bottom of each shoe for comparison — Thank you, Green Kids Resale!
I just couldn’t bring myself to pay full price (or even half-price) for a new pair of baseball shoes for my nine-year-old this year. His shoes are more likely to be lost on the playground than worn on a baseball diamond. Green Kids Resale to the rescue! We found a pair that is perfect for either… Why? Because it was FREE! That’s right: All those bags I’ve dropped off on my way to the grocery store really do add up.
Every time I clean out a closet, a bag goes to Green Kids Resale. They either buy my items and call me with an offer, or they donate it to charity at my request. I can take payment in a form of a check, or a store credit for 20 percent more. I always choose the store credit. And, surprise: I had enough for the baseball cleats AND a new pair of baseball pants, without holes or stains, which are hard to come by.
I love that Green Kids Resale makes it so easy for me to recycle things my children have outgrown, while giving me an economical way to replace them with new-to-us items. This month Green Kids Resale celebrates its fourth anniversary. Its success is a reminder that preserving, sharing and recycling resources is beneficial to Lake County and the planet. Regardless of financial means, it makes sense to reuse items. Not only that, a stop at Green Kids Resale actually inspires me to go home and clean out closets!
Editor’s Note: If you follow them on Facebook they post items as they come in and if it’s a highly coveted item (like say big kid snow pants in the middle of winter) you can call and pay for it over the phone!
