Last week, I ran into Target to grab presents for two birthday parties my kindergartener was going to and I came face to face with a life-size Chewbacca that actually greeted me with his signature growl-roar-purr. Since both parties were Star Wars-themed, I was on the hunt for Star Wars toys and it wasn’t hard to find them thanks to the upcoming release of The Force Awakens, the latest addition to the Star Wars saga. The movie comes out in December but celebrating Star Wars Reads Day on Saturday, October 10th, 2015 is a great way to get into the Star Wars spirit!
Launched in 2012, this is now the fourth year that Lucasfilm and its publishing partners Disney-Lucasfilm Press, Marvel, Abrams, Chronicle, Del Rey, DK, Quirk Books, Scholastic, Workman, Egmont, Studio Fun, and Phoenix International Publishing are celebrating Star Wars and reading with this international event. You can find information and downloadable activities including Star Wars Activities and The Force Awakens Activities at starwars.com and the DK Star Wars Reads website. For more information you can join the Star Wars Reads Facebook Community and be sure to follow and tweet your Star Wars Reads Day fun with #starwarsreads on Twitter.
If you are on the lookout for great Star Wars books to read with your littlest ones, Chronicle Books recently released Star Wars® Epic Yarns, sweet board books for parents who want to introduce their pre-readers to their favorite movies. Each of the first three Star Wars movies – 12 words for 12 iconic scenes from each movie – are brought to life with amazingly detailed needle felt recreations.
