Summer is a great time to take a family outing and enjoy a children’s theater production. Lake County is home to some great local groups. Summer is also a great time to see some youth theater production as there are many classes and camps that put on single night or weekend performances. Here is what we have seen lined up for this summer:

Big Deal Highlights at Twilight
June 26 at 7:30 p.m.
Dan Schimmel Pavilion at Willow Stream Park, Buffalo Grove
An evening of song, with some of the area’s most talented young performers for this cabaret-style performance. Featuring performances from some of Big Deal’s incredible past and current participants, this show is certain to be a musical blast for the whole community! Presented by Big Deal Productions. 

Alice & Wonderland
July 9, 10, 15, 16, 17 at 6:00 p.m.

Melody Farm Nature Preserve, Lake Forest
An original adaptation of Lewis Carroll`s Alice In Wonderland will be performed outdoors at Melody Farms Nature Preserve in Lake Forest. The ever-popular story of a young girl`s trip in the fantastical world ruled by the Queen of Hearts will be played in natural lighting. Presented by Citadel Theatre.

Music in the Moonlight: Best of Broadway
July 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m.
Dan Schimmel Pavilion at Willow Stream Park, Buffalo Grove
an evening of song at the Big Deal Summer Cabaret: Music in the Moonlight! This unique musical production, starring some of the area’s most talented adult and teen performers, will be a treat for the whole family. Featuring many of your favorite songs from Broadway and beyond, this cabaret-style show is not to be missed.  Presented by Big Deal Productions.

Freckleface Strawberry, The Musical
July 24, 25, 31, and August 1 at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
Uptown Music Theater of Highland Park presents Freckleface Strawberry, the Musical. Based on the beloved New York Times best-selling book by celebrated actress, Julianne Moore, the show is a fun and touching family musical. Created specifically for young audiences, Freckleface Strawberry takes you inside of the book’s pages with Freckleface and friends as they learn to “love the skin they’re in.” With the help of her loveable schoolmates, including an amazingly talented ballerina, a cutie jock, a charming ditz, and a totally kooky teacher, Freckleface learns that everyone is different – and that’s what makes everyone special. Running time is one hour. The show will be held outdoors at Danny Cunniff Park. Tickets are $10 each – all ages.
