In a county where delicious frozen treats are available everywhere, the classic ice cream sundae stands at the pinnacle of dairy deliciousness.
However, only one ice cream sundae can reign supreme.
Will you take our Tasty Tuesday Challenge to discover which giant ice cream sundae in Lake County will win the showdown?
These contenders were chosen for size and strength, but it’s not just the number of scoops that will determine the victor… it’s how it tastes!
In this corner, our first challenger, weighing in at a scrappy eight scoops of ice cream is…
One for the Whole Carload! from Olando’s/Diana’s Dream Ice Cream Shoppe in Round Lake Beach

One for the Whole Carload! promises to satiate a hungry minivan full of Little League players or even just my sweet-toothed husband after his weekend run. Featuring eight scoops of assorted ice cream, covered with your choice of up to four toppings, bananas, whipped cream, nuts, cherries or cookies, the Carload looks you straight in the eye and says, “Go ahead, I dare you!”

The opponent is a heavyweight behemoth that is not for the faint of heart. Only the bravest souls would dare oppose it. Presenting…
The Kitchen Sink Sundae from D.W. Anderson’s Eatery & Ice Cream Parlor, Gurnee

If size alone were the factor, The Kitchen Sink Sundae would win by TKO with 18 scoops of ice cream: six scoops of each flavor (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry) and assorted sauces and toppings. As if its intimidating size weren’t enough to make you quake in your pants, this sundae does indeed come served inside a kitchen sink.
