Top 10 Mama Summer Fashion Must-Haves!

Who doesn’t appreciate a little direction when it comes to navigating the fashion scene?  We don’t want to look too dressy, too casual, too dowdy, too sexy, too mom-ish, too teenagery…fashion is hard!  I have put together a list of my top 10 summer must-haves for moms.  Guaranteed, you add these to your closet for the summer of 2015, and you will be fashionable, trendy and hip, without looking like you are heading to the One Direction concert. (Although, honestly, wouldn’t we love to be?)

1) Anything Coral

$40 at

My favorite summer color, (with turquoise a close second) coral is an amazing accessory color.  Add a fun pair of coral sandals, a purse, or even a bright coral necklace to any outfit, and suddenly, you are exuding summertime fashion.

2) Cute pair of wedges

Wedges are the best mommy invention ever. They provide you with heels so they help slim the legs, but are stable for wrangling kids, chasing after rogue toddlers, and balancing while getting that darn stroller out of the trunk.

3) Flirty floral

Floral is in, and nothing is more feminine!  Embrace the wonder of what a woman’s body can do and show off your feminine side with a fun floral sundress, top or pair of shorts. (Note, this mama does not recommend mixing florals…one is enough, mixing makes you an over-eager mama.)

Merona Maxi, $29.99 at

4) Maxi dress

Maxi dresses are the perfect clothing items that scream versatility.  Wear one for a day at the park, a picnic, a date night, or an afternoon at the zoo – the length gives maximum coverage so you don’t accidentally flash anyone, yet the comfort makes it easy to play with the kids!

5) Brightly colored skinny jeans

Skinny jeans can look cute on anyone when paired with the right top.  Accentuate your hard-earned after baby tummy with a crop top, hide your lovin’-my-kids-chicken-nuggets booty with a flowy tank.  The right color and fit will take you miles, and you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to look great!

Turquoise Bathing Suit

6) A fantastic swimsuit
You don’t have to be in an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini to feel sexy in a swimsuit!  You can get great coverage of those baby-changing areas of your body while still beautiful in a bright color or by highlighting some of the assets that babies help “enhance.” Don’t give up after trying on one or two…I literally have not ever bought a swimsuit without trying on at least 15. Rewarding results require some effort!

Hopscotch into Style Romper, $30.99 at

7) Romper

Rompers are fun, trendy, and flattering!  So many fits and styles, anyone can find a design to flatter her assets and make her feel sexy. You don’t have to look like your toddler in one of these…look at short versions, pant versions, patterns or even the classy solid black.  Don’t knock it until you try it!

Just UV Wait and See Sunglasses in Tortoiseshell $40.99 at

8) Sexy Summer Shades

Who doesn’t feel more glamorous in an amazing pair of sunglasses?  ‘Nough said. (Plus they hide the circles under our sleep-deprived eyes!)

9) Brightly Colored Statement Necklace

You don’t have to be going to a wedding to rock an awesome statement necklace! These fun fashion accessories are an affordable way to always look put together.  Pair them over a solid tee and shorts or a tank with a skirt, and you are suddenly the most fashionable mom on the block!

10) An amazing lotion with SPF

It would be irresponsible of me to NOT mention the most important accessory in the world – sunscreen lotion to keep us safe and healthy for our kiddos! I personally love my Citrus scented Vitamin C enhanced daily moisturizer with SPF 30. I smell great, help my skin look youthful, and protect it all at the same time.

About Shelby Younge 21 Articles
Shelby has lived in counties across the U.S. from New York to California. She has worked in catering, public relations, and as a sales executive for a marketing and travel company before giving up her mundane life of exotic food, party planning and international binge travel for the glamour of poopy diapers and being known by name at Costco. She calls Lakewood home with her three sons and a daughter ranging in age from nine to one, and is married to her college sweetheart. Shelby enjoys cooking, exercising, coaching, church-going, wining and dining with friends and spying on her kids under the guise of “volunteering” at school. You can find Shelby dancing through the aisles of the dollar store, sporting heels and nursing her baby in the Ergo, while looking for inspiration for the next family theme day. Or, she might be chauffeuring her kiddos to one of their 1,204 activities while belting out Kids Bop (but using the original lyrics) in her gluten-free cracker-filled family truckster.
