Top 5 Foods of the Lake County Fair

From the smells of the sweet deserts of funnel cakes, to the beef of the foot long corndogs, to the delectable sweet corn to the candy apples, at the Lake County Fair you’re never to far from food. Tis the season to fill your belly.

The 88th Annual Lake County Fair begins this week from July 27-31. (I mean look at the logo. Doesn’t that look edible?!)

So save some room and don’t bother bringing your belt for the entire weekend because  there are so many delicious eats this side of the Mississippi.

Here are the top 5 foods of the Lake County Fair.

  1. Yester Year is Future Year Ice Cream. This homemade ice cream is unbelievable. First of all, it’s an entertainment just viewing the creation of the ice cream. All of the machinery utilized for cooking is made from restored antique John Deere products. Actually the tractor that pulls the cooking machinery around is a restored from 1931. It also can carry up to 30 gallons of ice cream. Not only is ice cream made from this high powered John Deere machine, but also they feature breakfast, lunch and dinner ranging in dishes like pancakes, beef sandwiches, pulled park sandwich, country fries and so much more from Muskego, Wisconsin!
  1. You can’t take a trip through the fictional Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, but Anderson’s Candy Shop is the next best thing. The Richmond/Barrington, Illinois-based shop has been making quality fudges, caramels, truffles and chocolate candies for four generations. They’ve been named among the best candy makers in the U.S. and North America by sources like the L.A. Times and Consumer’s Digest.
  1. Wisconsin Cheese will be in attendance. Check their cheesecyclopedia. Wisconsin’s unique cheese making heritage has produced exceptional cheese for more than 160 years. Cheesemakers have long praised the state’s elements as perfect ingredients for producing superior milk and, of course, non-steroid or preservative used cheese. Today, third- and fourth-generation cheesemakers are continuing old-world traditions and setting new standards in cheese making craftsmanship and artistry. The state’s 1,200 cheesemakers produce more than 600 varieties, types and styles of cheese.
  1. Applelicious is a store that gives you the most delectable apples this side of the Mississippi. One of their signature dishes is an apple turnover turned into a sundae. This is a must devour type of dish.

The Lake County Fair is renowned for its Funnel Cakes, Sweet corn, foot long corn dogs, candy apples, fried Oreos, pies (keep a little bit of room in your tummy if you plan on competing in the pie eating contest), kettle corn, curly fries, snow cones and freshly squeezed lemonade. They are staples at the fair, and also  a way to top of this list of gourmet goodness.

The Lake County Fair is located at 1060 E. Peterson Rd, Grayslake and runs from July 27-31, 2016.
