Our October Top 10 is presented by Yu Kids Island in Vernon Hills. An indoor play utopia for preschoolers providing active fun as well as holiday events, parents night out and drop-off while you shop hours. October weather may be some of the most unpredictable in the Midwest. Will it be a sweltering Halloween or will we freezing? Will it rain or snow? No one knows! Be proactive and check with all outdoor events before you tell the kids and get them in their costumes. Some events require pre-registration. Little Lake County is not responsible for sold out or cancelled events.

  1. Cook Library’s 16th Annual Touch-a-Truck and Libertyville Junior Woman’s Club Pumpkin Fest
    October 14 – Cook Park Libertyville always comes alive during the holidays and October is no exception. Start your morning exploring the community service vehicles surrounding the park. Then head to the park to paint a pumpkin, enjoy live music and more.  Bring a donation for the food pantry and your pumpkin is free!
  2. Halloween Hoopla
    October 28-29–  This Signature Deerfield event includes two-days of Halloween fun for every age and fear level. From Zombie Games to a pumpkin patch, a Bonfire, Movie in the park, inflatables, games, wagon rides and more! Admission is Free.

  3. Fall fun on the Farm
    October 7-8 – Support Lambs Farm’s mission with a day of farm fun for the whole family. $15 for Children and $8 for adults gets you fall themed crafts and activities including a painted pumpkin, sand art, face painting, cookie decorating and more. The Lake County Farm Heritage association will have their tractors available for touching and the barrel train for rides. Admission includes all activities  and farmyard attractions.
  4. CROCtoberfest at the Wildlife Discovery Center
    October 22 – Celebrate reptiles with the Wildlife Discovery Center at this wild fundraiser. $E10 donation per person is requested. Event includes talk and animal presentations. Read about Loralie’s Experience.
  5. Pre-Academy Boo Bash
    October 29– Preschoolers are invited to Dance Academy of Libertyville for a Boo Bash experience! This camp experience will include dance instruction, crafts, and a treat. Registration is required. $20 for children ages 3-6.

  6. Spook-Tacular Halloween
    October 26 – Drop in for a Halloween bite at Rainforest Cafe and children in costume will receive a free meal (with the purchase of an adult meal).
  7. Fall Family Festival
    October 22 – Join Little Lake County at the Busy Brains Children’s Museum Fall Family Festival in Lehman Park. There will be hands on activities, tractor rides, obstacle course, games and more. Little Lake County will be raffling off a Britax B-Ready Stroller! Admission is $7 per family- save $2 by bringing a donation for an area Animal Shelter.

  8. Trunk-or-Treat
    October 27 – Join your favorite Goldfish Swim School teachers for a free community event. Trick or treat in the parking lot then head inside for a family swim, Halloween crafts and light refreshments.
  9. Trick-or-Treat and Something Sweet
    October 31 – Give your preschoolers a sweet little spook with Halloween Activities and open play at Yu Kids Island Vernon Hills. $12 for the first child, $`1 for each additional sibling. Admission includes open play, crafts and a snack.

  10. Glam Night for Breast Health
    October 6 – Let’s be honest, you hardly take time for yourself – especially in a month like October where there is just so much to do! Start it off right by giving yourself a night out to focus on you! Glam up with make-overs and massages while you learn about breast health and cancer prevention. Help us raise fund for the American Cancer Society while having a blast with your girlfriends!
