Top Places for Families in Lake County
- Central Park Splash Pad, Grayslake
Start dreaming of summer! The review may be from 2011, but year after year it’s a top story and it’s no secret why! A free splash pad that is totally fenced in is the perfect location for cooling off little people without making a big excursion or donning water wings. Watch the Grayslake Park District website it usually opens around Memorial day.
- Bowen Park, Waukegan
We kicked off our playground tour here for a reason! This park is a must do for Lake County kids from it’s multi-level play and climbing structure to the nature trails and splash pad there is something for everyone and every age at this park.
- Warren Township Park, Gurnee
In our house this is known as the “big sandbox park” or the “dinosaur bones” park. The enormous sandbox features a water play area and buried dinosaur fossils. The park itself has play area for toddlers through big kids.
- Green Meadows Petting Farm, East Troy WI
A great benefit of our location is that we are a quick drive to both the city of Chicago and Wisconsin, so one of those usually make our tops lists. Heather says, “It is truly one of those rare places you visit with your kids, that you cannot say enough good things about.”
- Hastings Lake Playground, Lake Villa
The brand new playground at the Hastings Lake Forest Preserve is everything moms and kids could want. Play areas for all ages, turf that is perfect for crawlers and new walkers and an imaginative design. It’s quickly become a favorite of ours.
- Betty Russell Community Park, Gurnee
2014 was the year of the playground, and we think that rocks. Betty Russell was a favorite for its train theme and near perfect play place for the smallest park goers.
