My kids, like most young kids, love getting up close and personal with big trucks. Even my daughters love the chance to climb onto a big truck and see the world from a different viewpoint. When we first moved to Lake County, a friend told me that we had to check out the Vernon Hills Public Works Open House. Held every other, she said it was by far the best touch a truck experience in Lake County.
Kids will get a behind the scenes look at all the vehicles used to run a city, from construction trucks to police vehicles. The year we were there, they were even giving rides around the parking lot in a street sweeper, which at the time was my four years olds favorite truck.
There will also be representatives from Clarke Mosquito, SWALCO, Cook Memorial Library, Lake County Public Works, North Shore Gas, and Advanced Disposal, providing fun activities for the kids and useful information for parents. ComEd was also there the year we went, letting the kids ride in the harness up to the ceiling!
