What to do with your Kids Artwork

Even if you are not exactly crafty once your kids start school you will find your house bursting at the seams with arts and craft projects that the kids bring home. I already gave you some ideas for managing all the paper your kids bring home. Even with those ideas in place I still couldn’t house all the art my son was producing. I was inundated and I needed another idea. So we held an Art Show.

We went through all his artwork and chose which pieces we would display. For this show we used all the same type of work since he had completed a series of art classes. It’s important if you want the art to be able to leave your house without tears that you let your child help you “curate” the event.
We picked a Sunday afternoon and invited the Aunts, Uncles and Grandparents to come over for dinner and the debut of a future world class artist. We used an online invitation site to sent out invites and make it all very official looking.
We set up the show in a spare bedroom so we could keep it closed until the “opening”. My son was literally vibrating and bouncing form excitement waiting to escort his family in to his show.

We mounted each picture to construction paper and labeled each one with a name, the medium, the ear and a price. We made all of them $1-2 although my husband says we should have started at 25cents. We had a few pieces that he chose that we really wanted to keep so we made those higher prices so no one would buy them.

At the end of the evening I had a noticeably smaller “can’t throw out” art pile and my son was beaming with pride. It was a fun way to spend time with the grandparents while allowing one siblings talent to shine. We will definitely be doing this again.

How do you control all your kids art projects?
