You know we love to play and encourage families to get outside and PLAY! This weekend at parks around our area there will be events and activities to celebrate just that at the Worldwide day of Play! Started in 2004 by Nickelodeon the day is set to encourage children to get outside and play as a way to combat childhood obesity.
Saturday September 19
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Gurnee
Viking Park will be the site for games galore! There will be pickleball, badminton, ping pong, shuffleboard, tether ball, basketball, tennis, and a Gaga Pit. There will be games and scavenger hunts as well as crafts. Event is weather dependent.
11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Vernon Hills
Put down the iPad, turn off the X-Box, and come out to Century Park North for an afternoon of unplugged play time! Park District staff will lead some old-school picnic games including sack races, hula hoop contests, egg toss and several other games and activities available.
11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Waukegan
The Field House Sports and Fitness Center will host fun sports, contests, games, crafts and healthy snacks. Parents must stay on site with children 7 and younger.
2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Glencoe
Takiff Center will host a “monumental day of play” including crafts, games, sports and wellness programs all set to reinforce the message: Get Up, Get Out and Go Play!
Saturday September 26
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Glenview
Kohl Children’s Museum and Imagination Playground will come together for a special Worldwide Day of Play in their Habitat Park. Let imaginations sour as kids create whatever they want our of Imagination playground’s large blue blocks. Standard admission rates apply.
