In 2011, the park district added an additional play area, including an exciting zip line designed for kids age five and older. The zip line is a highlight for the older kids, that ends with a little bump. Near the zip line, there is also a large climbing web and some balance structures. This park is well shaded and has an area for big and little kids: Century Park Playground Profile.

Deerpath (Castle) Park, Vernon Hills

The castle theme is alive and well, and will encourage kids to spend hours playing knights versus dragons, and princess and kings. The zip line and large slides keep the older kids happy, and the tunnels and caves are fun for the smallest kids. The idyllic setting within Deerpath Park makes it a great spot to spend a day, walking the paths, enjoying the nature of the nearby ponds and of course, playing at the park. Recent additions include a fence around the entire perimeter of the park. Playground Profile of Deerpath Park.

Belvidere Park also has a regular/standard play structure for the older adventurer. It includes a small climbing wall, a (very high) zip line, two slides, a suspension bridge, and monkey bars (my six-year-old could just reach it). Read our full Belvidere Park Playground Profile.

This park has a lot of neat features that appeal to all ages. Of note first is the turf ground. It is eco-friendly, doesn’t get messed up if wet, and is soft and easy to run and to fall on. Another great feature is this zip line, which is a lot of fun for your adventurous little ones.  Read the full Horizon Park Playground Profile.

West Park, Lake Forest
850 North Summit Ave.

West Park Lake Forest

At first sight, we found our favorite park amenity, a zip line! As expected, this zip line kept my boys busy for at least twenty minutes and is clearly the highlight of this park and nearly every park that is lucky enough to have one. Of course, this was also the busiest area because who doesn’t love a good zip line? Read the full West Park Playground Profile.
